Evaluation Question 5

Evaluation Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The suited audience for our media product would be teenagers and young adults that show an interest in a film that conforms to the typical conventions of a crime film but would like it to be more engaging towards their age group as the lead character is also a teenager. The target audience for our film would need to have access to a computer or any other device that allows them to view social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram so that they can find out about the film. It is considered that the target audience for our film is a student that does not have a lot of money so the film would be available to view for free online, this would be another reason why the target audience needs to have a device that would allow them to access social media sites and online websites that could be an outsource for the product, websites such as Youtube and Vimeo which can be viewed on a phone, tablet as well as a computer. The target audience would need to have an existing taste in old detective films and have an understanding that the film would be a modern take on the typical traits and conventions of an old detective film. An example of a film that has similar traits to its genre but is aimed at a younger audience would be the 2011 film attack the block, which has similar traits to a regular science fiction film but is adapted to suit a younger audience.

Evaluation Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The kind of media institution that would be suited to distributing our media product would probably be a small independent productions and distribution company as we would not need a high budget to produce our product, this is because there is little need for a range of expensive costumes, expensive sets or special effects to produce the film because the usual conventions of a crime film do not tend to rely on these traits. A small production and distribution company would be able to help with the budget for our film easily as well as distribute it, our product could be posted up onto a website such as Vimeo or Youtube where viewers are able to watch the film for free at a time of their choice as this would appeal to a younger audience who do not tend to have the money to afford to go out and pay for films, and would rather stay and home and watch it at a time that suits them best. The film could also be shown at a film festival; this would be a good way to get the film seen by a large audience who are interested in films and that particular genre at one time, an example of a film festival in which our product could be shown is the Raindance Film Festival. Through the use of social media we would be able to advertise our product to our target audience easily as most teenagers use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other forms of social media. Another benefit of advertising through social media is that it is a fairly low budget way of advertising the product as producing a page on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram does not cost any money unless you would like to product an advert for your page then that would require a small fee.

Voice over script

After producing the first version of the film we decided as a group to re-record the voice over because it did not come out as clear as we wanted it to. We also decided to produce a vague script of things that should be said as part of the voice over as the other one was completely improvised.

First Draft Feedback

After we presented the first draft of our product to our teacher we were given a range of changes to make and consider. These changes will improve the product and therefore improve the grade of our product.
The changes we needed to make to our product include:
- Add quiet tension music
- Change title font
- Remove the clip of daniel
- Add another street shot to increase the length of the film
- Re-record the voice over to a higher qaulity (less muffling)
- Script the voiceover
- Change the name of the film (we've decided on the title Red Herring)
- Use the face close up clip as the last shot in the sequence

Treatment

Treatment
Our film opening starts with an establishing shot panning down a residential suburban street. It cuts to a slow zoom in on the front window of the house where film is set. An extreme close up of the detective’s hand, holding and clicking a pen is shown, followed by an extreme close up of the hand of the dead body sticking out from under a sheet. It slowly zooms in (match on action). The next shot is of objects on mantle, one out of place, panning across from left to right.
This is going to be followed by a mid shot of the body's forehead/hair sticking out of the sheet then a close up of the ceiling light, slowly zooming out. The next shot is of feet sticking out of the sheet, pull focus from one foot to the other. Followed by a slow zoom out of the painted pictures on the wall of which one is skewed.
The shots are a little bit random which add to the overall effect of our piece. Another extreme close up of the detective's hand, clicking a pen. Next there will be a slow zoom out of the bodies hair to reveal more of the scene, including the face and sheet.
Another extreme close up of the hand clicking the pen will be next, showing the detective stopping mid click followed by an extreme close up of the detectives eyes, suddenly darting sideways. The sound of footsteps will be heard which is what caught his attention. We see a close up of his mouth/the bottom half of face, smirking and then hhis head turns towards the door. An over the shoulder shot of detective’s sidekick entering the room is the final shot then it cuts to the titles.
